Pictures and Stories is owned and operated by husband-and-wife team Tom and Alison Taylor.
Tom: In the first 25 years of my business career, I had interviewed hundreds of people, analyzing the information and writing about business perspectives. At some point I realized that I found the people themselves—and the stories of their dreams, heartbreaks, and triumphs—much more compelling than the world of business and economics. So I made the decision to devote the rest of my career to helping people tell and preserve their life stories. I started Pictures and Stories in 1994. When I met Alison, I knew that her design skills could take what I was doing to another artistic level.
Alison: In 2004, when I met Tom, I was working as a photographer, artist, and graphic designer. Although I had won awards for my designs and I loved the creativity involved in photography, I longed for a deeper connection with people and a chance to incorporate my writing skills into my work. When I fell in love with Tom, I also loved what he did for a living, and knew I wanted to be a part of it.
And so our partnership—in work and in life—began in 2005. Sometimes we can't believe our luck: we get to develop lasting relationships with wonderful people; we get to hear fascinating stories every day; we get to use our skills to create beautiful books and videos that people love. Best of all, we get to work together!
